Construction Superintendent

Position Summary

Under general supervision of the University Hospitals Trust Construction Project Manager, this person will coordinate with subcontractors to ensure projects are continuing forward on schedule. This person will also inspect construction sites, including containment and FGI requirements to ensure work is performed in a safe and organized manner while helping maintain the professional and clean working environment.

Construction Management or associates degree preferred

Desired Certification

Specialized certifications (CEM, CMVP, CEA) preferred

OSHA 10/30 preferred

Desired Experience

5-7 years of commercial or healthcare construction

ICRA and Hospital Containment experience preferred

Examples of Work Performed
  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the construction site
  • Ensures that construction progress meets construction documents expectations
  • Coordinates with subcontractors for work to be completed
  • Documents daily progress and inspections
  • Inspect construction site each day
  • Ensure safety standards are followed
  • Ensure infection control standards are met
  • Enforcing company safety codes on construction sites
  • Responsible for day-to-day quality control
  • Ensuring material procurement and delivery is done in a timely manner
  • Oversees maintenance and clean-up of site, including sweeping and mopping
  • Coordinates with containment team to ensure every site meets code requirements
  • Oversees containment set-up, including helping containment team set-up containment
  • Assist the Construction Project Coordinator and Construction Project Manager as needed
  • Perform manual labor as directed, including carpentry, demolition, trash removal, hardware, casework and all other needs
  • Working nights or weekends, when needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills
  • Highly motivated with strong problem-solving skills and dependable.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry.
  • Above average communication skills.
  • Able to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Familiar with infection control. Adheres to infection control standards.
  • Proficient with OSHA safety standards and follows these standards.
  • CPR/Standard First Aid certificate.
  • OSHA 10 certificate preferred.
  • Knowledge and skills of effective communications with colleagues and public (written and oral).
  • Basic understanding of MS Office, MS Outlook, any construction project management software is preferred.
  • Abilities to multi-task and establish priorities, maintain organization in a changing environment and coordinate/schedule construction related items with multiple subcontractors and building tenants – Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, leadership and good communication
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
  • Ability to navigate through a construction site for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, lifting and moving equipment up to 50 pounds, ascend and descend scaffolds and ladders, work at heights, maintain balance in all situations.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work and work in various positions, including, but not limited to, using construction tools, moving boxes and equipment tools, up to 40 lbs, move in confined spaces, position self above or below spaces/equipment.
  • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
  • Ability to hold, handle, and operate/manipulate several objects and material.
  • Ability to communicate in person and discern direction.
