BAS Project Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the University Hospitals Trust (UHT), the Building Automation Systems (BAS) Project Manager oversees the design, installation, commissioning, and financial performance of HVAC, lighting, and security control projects. They act as the primary liaison between clients, engineers, and technicians to deliver smart building solutions on time and within budget, typically requiring a technical background in HVAC controls.

Essential Employee This position supports critical facility functions and may require on-site presence during emergencies, inclement weather, or other operational disruptions.

Patient Contact This position will have direct patient contact. Potential for exposure to various healthcare-related illnesses normally associated with a hospital environment.

Working Environment Indoor and outdoor facility work, including exposure to construction sites, mechanical spaces, extreme temperatures and excessive noise levels. While performing the duties of this job, the colleague is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, climb ladders/stairs, talk, hear; uses hands to handle or touch objects or controls. The colleague must occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Project Execution: Manage the full project lifecycle, including scope definition, planning, scheduling, and implementation of BAS, BMS, and OT networks.
  • Financial & Resource Management: Monitor labor and material costs, oversee subcontractors, and ensure project profitability.
  • Technical Coordination: Review control drawings, sequences of operation, and submittals; verify that equipment is installed to specification.
  • Client Relations: Serve as the main contact for owners, tenants and contractors to resolve issues and manage expectations.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to safety regulations, building codes, and cybersecurity standards.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Required
  • Experience: 3 – 8+ years in building automation, HVAC controls, or DDC systems.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical/mechanical/electronics engineering, computer science or a combination of education and equivalent field experience.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of BAS platforms (e.g., Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Automated Logic), BACnet, and Modbus protocols.
Preferred
  • Certifications: Automated Logic certification, Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus.
  • Healthcare facilities experience.
  • CAD/REVIT experience.

REGULATORY & COMPLIANCE

This position is subject to compliance with Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, OSHA, and applicable state and federal regulations. The colleague in this role is expected to maintain current competency documentation as required by UHT policy.
